Visit Ancona

Ancona is a city and a seaport in the Marche region in central Italy, capital of the province of Ancona and of the region.

What to do and see here:

  • San Ciriaco Cathedral, built on top of Monte Guasco in the 11th century. From here you have a fantastic view over the city, from the port to the historic center.
  • The Archeological Museum is housed in a 16th century palazzo (Ferretti), located near the cathedral. Here you can see artifacts from ancient populations in the region.
  • In the port you will find arches from different era: Trajan's Arch (a Roman monument), Clement's Arch (built in honor of Pope Clement), and Porta Pia (a Baroque entry gate).

Walking distance from the center, you will discover Passetto Beach with panoramic stairs that take you to caves. There is also an elevator with similar stunning views.
